Since Indonesian conception in 1928 and Indonesian independence in 1945, the standard of Indonesian spelling has gone through significant spelling changes in the language. In 1947, the government’s Ministry of Education changed the Dutch-spelled “oe” into “u”.
However there was major change made in 1972 when Bahasa Indonesia went through a formal spelling reform which is known as Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan (EYD) which means The Enhanced Indonesian Spelling System or Perfected Spelling System in English.
