How to Write Conditional Sentence in Indonesian – Formula – Examples

Furthermore, what lesson that we have today? You will learn about the conditional sentence in Indonesia, it also called with kalimat pengandaian in Indonesian. Kalimat pengandaian has the aim to suppose an event or something that has to happen or will happen someday. In here, when you make a conditional sentence in Indonesian, it has a similar pattern as the English did.

For more information, this sentence always expressed with some words, such as; Bila, Jika, Kalau, Apabila, Seandainya, and also Andaikan. Below here are the examples of a conditional sentence in Indonesian. Okay, let’s go.

1. Bila

First, you can make a conditional sentence in Indonesia with bila, it means if. Let’s see how is the conditional sentence in Indonesia with bila; Bila bayi menangis tengah malam, ibuku bangun dan menyusuinya(If the baby is crying in the midnight, my mother gets up and nursing him).

Then, you also can make the conditional like this; Tas itu tidak akan hilang bila ada yang mencurinya (That bag cannot lose if someone takes it). Actually, while we use bila in a conditional sentence, it used for the event that has to happen (now).

2. Jika

Next, we can also use Jika in the conditional sentence in Indonesian. It also has the same means in English, it is if. So, how to make a conditional sentence with this? Here are the examples; Jika Aku Sudah Besar, Aku Ingin menjadi dokter (If I grew up, I will be a doctor).

This sentence is explained about how is your target in your future, and who will you be? Second, you also can make a sentence like; Anak itu akan sakit jika ibunya tidak membawanya ke dokter (That child will be sick, if her mother does not take her to the doctor).

3. Kalau

You can also make a conditional sentence with kalau, how to make it it is similar to the previous points, you can place kalau in the front or at the end.  These are the examples of the conditional sentences; Kalau aku punya banyak uang, pasti akan kubelikan apapun yang kamu minta (If I have much money, I will bought anything that you want).

A second example of a conditional sentence with kalau; Dia akan datang malam ini, kalau pekerjaannya sudah selesai (He will come tonight, if his duty is over). These conditional is clear, that they talk about something that will happen someday.

4. Apabila

Apabila kamu melihat ibuku, segera katakan padaku (If you see my mother, immediately tell me). Then you also can make conditional sentence with apabila like this; Ayah akan sangat bangga apabila aku menjadi anak yang mandiri (Father will be very proud if I am going to be independent). Apabila can used in two events, you can use it while it has happen and while it will happen (future). 

5. Seandainya

If you want to make a conditional sentence but it will never happen (an impossible thing) you can used seandainya. Sometimes human does this to build their imagination, so these are the example of the conditional sentences with seandainya.

First, seandainya aku punya sayap, aku pasti akan membawamu terbang ke angkasa. (If I had wings, I will take you to fly to the sky). Does a human have wings? It is very impossible, right?

Then, the next example is;  kami akan sangat senang bila seandainya ayah mengajak kami pergi ke Singapura (we will be very happy, if the father takes us going to go Singapore). This is an example of a conditional sentence with seandainya that has possible happen. Maybe someday, you and your family going to go Singapore.

6. Andaikan

Finally, make a conditional sentence in Indonesian with andaikan. Let’s take a look at how they are; Andaikan saja aku pergi hari ini, aku akan bertemu ibuku (If I go today, I will meet my mother). In here that explains, if you go today, you will meet your mother soon.

Then, sepeda itu akan tampak lebih baru andaikan di cat dengan warna merah (The bike will look more new if it painted by red color). So, in here it is clear that the old bike will look more new if it painted by red color.
