How to Apologize in Indonesian – Phrases – Meaning

Today I’ll give you about “how to apologize in Indonesian”. As we all know, apologize is needed when you or other people had something wrong to other people. As a kind person, we should know how to get interact to other people politely when you want to apologize.

How to Apologize in Indonesian in Formal Ways 

Here are the ways on how to Apologize in Indonesian:

1. Saya mohon maaf (I am so sorry)

This phrase is formal language, because this phrase more polite. You can use this phrase to everyone (to person who is older than you, younger than you, brother, etc) and to person who is older than you.

2. Maafkan saya (Give your pardon)

“Maafkan saya” is one of phrase which have similar mean with “saya mohon maaf”.  But, the different is this phrase better to use when you have conversation directly to persons or face to face.

How to say apologies in Indonesia in Informal Ways :

1. Maaf (Sorry)

“Maaf” is one of word which very simplest from “how to apologise in Indonesian”. You can use this word with your close firends, your younger brother / sisters, and children.

2. Aku minta maaf (I am sorry)

“Aku minta maaf” is one of phrase from “how to apologise in Indonesian” in informal language. You can use this phrase with your close friends, or to other people which younger than you.

3. Sorri ya (Sorry)

“Sorri ya” is one of phrase from “how to apologise in Indonesian” which in informal language. You can use this phrase with your close friends, your younger brother / sisters, children, and to other people which younger than you.

Billy : “Where’s my novel? Do you know?”

Sally : “Oh ya, I am sorry. I borrow your novel in the table yesterday. I forgot to ask you first because you’re in the toilet.”

Billy : “Oh, no problem.”

Sally : “Really?”

Billy : “Yes.”

Sally : “Thank you and I am really sorry.”

Di ruang kelas

Billy : “Dimana novelku? Apa kamu tahu?”

Sally : “Oh ya, aku minta maaf. Aku meminjam novel di mejamu kemarin. Aku lupa untuk izin meminjam soalnya kamu lagi di toilet. ”

Billy : “Oh, ya tidak masalah.”

Sally : “Benarkah?”

Billy : “Iya.”

Sally : “Terima kasih, dan aku sangat minta maaf.” 

Example Conversation in English (Formal Language)

In busway

Lani : “I am so sorry, can I borrow your pencil?”

Yani : “Oh ya, this is.”

Lani : “Thank you so much.”

Example Conversation in Indonesian (Formal Language)

Lani : “Mohon maaf, bisakah aku meminjam pensilmu?”

Yani : “Oh ya, ini.”

Lani : “Terima kasih banyak.”
