How to Say 1-10 in Indonesian (Vocabulary and Pronunciation)

Our current discussion is now about number. When learning a certain language, we can start from the easiest vocabulary, number.  Here we will talk about how to say 1-10 in Indonesian.  You can learn the sentence example given below.

Satu (1)

  • Rani menghabiskan liburannya di kota Malang, Jawa Timur, selama 1 minggu. (Rani spends her holiday in Malang, East Java for 1 week.)

In Indonesian, when we talk about order of number, 1st is not written as “ke 1”, but, “pertama”.

  • Anak pertama Bu Siti bernama Roro. (Bu Ani’s first kid’s name is Roro)

Dua (2)

  • Mark belajar Bahasa Indonesia selama 2 tahun. (Mark studies Indonesian for 2 years.)

You have to pay attention the difference between Indonesian word of order of number and amount in writing or speaking. For example, “ke dua” and “kedua”, the first one means “the second” and the later means “both”.  Here is an example for each word.

  • Anak laki – laki kedua Pak Andi tinggal di Denpasar, Bali. (Pak Andi’s second son lives in Denpasar, Bali.)
  • Kedua temanku, Gina dan Tina, tidak datang ke pesta ulang tahunku. (My both friends, Gina and Tina, didn’t come to my birthday party.)

  • 3 hari sebelum keberangkatan Mawar ke Singapura, dia mengunjungi rumah neneknya. (3 days before Mawar’s departure to Singapore, she visits her grandmother’s house.)
  • Anak ke tiga Tiara berusia 5 tahun. (Tiara’s third child is 5 years old.)
  • Iwan mempunyai 2 sahabat yang tinggal di Palembang, Sumatera Selatan. Ketiganya sudah tidak bertemu sejak 2014. (Iwan has 2 best friends who live in Palembang, South Sumatera. The three of them haven’t met since 2014.)

Empat (4)

  • 4 dari 10 siswa di kelas 6 mendapatkankan nilai 60 dalam ujian Matematika. (4 out of 10 students on 6th grade got 60 in Mathematics exam.)

Lima (5)

  • Doni baru saja membeli 5 kilogram ayam di pasar tradisional dekat rumahnya. (Doni just bought 5 kilograms of chicken at traditional market near his house.)

Enam (6)

Dia sudah belajar di Universitas Gajah Mada Yogyakarta selama 6 tahun.  (He has been studying in Gajah Mada University Yogyakarta for 6 years.) 

Tujuh (7)

  • Minggu lalu Ibuku menanam 7 jenis bunga di kebunnya. (Last week my mother planted 7 types of flowers in her garden.)

Delapan (8)

  • Pak Adi mengoleksi 8 mobil kuno. (Pak Adi collects 8 antique cars.)

Sembilan (9)

  • Perusahaan minyak multinasional itu memiliki 9 cabang yang tersebar di negara – negara Asia. (That multinational oil company has 9 branches spread in Asian countries.)

Sepuluh (10)

  • Dia mempromosikan film terbarunya di10 kota dalam 1 bulan. (She is promoting her new film in 10 cities for a month.)
  • Ratna sudah 10 bulan belajar di salah satu universitas swasta di kota Balikpapan, Kalimantan Timur. ( Ratna has been studying in one of private university in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.)
